No apps and no online booking. You walk in, you wait your turn on the red chairs, and you get the cut you asked for, even if you describe it badly. One customer said exactly that.

Every haircut is $20. Cash or Zelle only, no cards. Tips are appreciated.

Took my best friend who had dementia in there today and Cecilia the barber was awesome. Very professional and funny.

Ceciliaand the chair her father left her.

Cecilia Rios learned to cut hair from her father, a barber who ran shops in Pico-Union and Alhambra before the family landed here. When he retired she took over the shop, and she has kept the same single chair, the same checkered floor and the same neighborhood price ever since.

Regulars come from Echo Park, Silver Lake, Koreatown and a lot farther. Most of them say the same things: it is quick, it is careful, she offers you a bottle of water, and she makes you laugh.

“Money is not everything in life. We have our place, we have our health, I have this.”

Why "Echo"?

In 1892, while the city was building the lake down the street, parks superintendent Joseph Henry Tomlinson kept hearing echoes around the construction site. He named the park for them.

The park gave the neighborhood and the avenue their names. The lotus beds are still there.
